A hospital as well as a school was the felt need of Ram Colony Camp in 1970s, according to Mr. Hari Singh, Dr. Narayani’s husband- a Tamilian family settled in Hoshiarpur at that time and few other important personalities of the area. They conveyed this idea to the then sister superior, Rev. Sr. Alicia, St. Joseph’s convent Jalandhar and invited the sisters to come and see a plot. The sisters found the plot unsuitable for the purpose. At that time the priest in-charge of Hoshiarpur was Rev. Fr. Thomas Kalapura from Jalandhar diocese. The above mentioned well wishers then introduced father and sisters to Mr. Harbans Singh Sardar, Babuji as he was called by sisters, a well-known person of the locality , our generous benefactor, welcomed whole-heartedly their proposal and immediately expressed his willingness to donate 5 acres of land for the very purpose. The whole situation, after study was found conducive to start the above said apostolates. Registration of the land was done on 28/08/1970.
On a bright Wednesday evening, 21st April 1971, the foundation stone of the hospital building was laid by Rt. Rev. Msgr. Alban Swarbrick, the then Prefect Apostolic of Jallandhar diocese.
The ground floor of the hospital building was completed and it was blessed on 19th January 1972.
St. Joseph’s dispensary started working on 22nd December 1972 under the able guidance and care of Sr. Francina CMC and Dr. Choudhary as a visiting doctor.
